Another Challege

The latest challenge for the online art group was to use some household item as the material for our creation. I chose to create a collage with coffee filters and coffee in all forms. Although I titled this “Java Sunrise", some said it reminded them of a bouquet or a wild garden behind a fence. Either way, it was a fun challenge that will continue for the rest of the month. I may do another piece if time permits. What would you chose for your household item? Care to share? If so, email the image and/or the link to your site and I will post it here.

  1. I don't have a household item to share because my current series has to do with the passage of time on memories and nature and right now my inspiration is coming from my gardens. But I do want to say that I love your coffee grinds piece as the textures and colors are what turns me on.

  2. This is fabulous! I have used coffee before and always liked the color. Sometimes black papers will bleach out to look really cool, but the fumes are a bit intense. Another thing I like to work with is waxed paper and acyclic paint.

  4. Your too kind Leslie.I love your collages and I'm sure your coffee creations were super.I have worked both with wax paper and bleach on black paper. I did have a problem with the fumes.I used wax paper to transfer paint like mono-printing. There are so many fun techniques, no wonder we love being artists!

  5. Of course it would help if I were a coffee drinker, but green tea with roasted rice is another matter.

Your composition is most interesting and when I first looked at it, I felt the spirit of a shaman emerge from the art work.

I know the hour is late and that I am tired, but that is what the mind picked up.

What I would be interested in knowing is the artwork's size and surface. Not that I necessarily have the time, but where is the challenges origin, is it with you?

    Wishing you a wonderful day.

  6. Hello Eva, I so like your "Java Sunrise"...the texture and the way you have created negative and positive circles...really great. I have used coffee and tea leaves myself and have created rich colors and shapes but never coffee filters!
This is my first time to visit and I'll be sure to return.

  7. Thank you Blue Sky Dreaming.I used both natural and white filters. They are great for creating a colorful tie dye effects, but I wanted to stay with the coffee theme.Love your new kitchen!

  8. Tea and roasted rice, now that sounds interesting Egmont! My collage is 16"x16" on multimedia art board. The board is a thin rigid product that is made of paper bound with epoxy resin. http://www.multimediaartboard.com/ > the art challenge is not mine, but it would be fun to start one.I belong to a funky Ning group that I discovered on YouTube. They are a young group that can get a little weird at times. I'm really out of place there, but I can't resist a challenge.

  9. I have been busy with our move to Toronto Eva and haven't been keeping up with any blogs. Today I made time to check yours out and as usual I'm very impressed. Your responses to the online challenges are very creative. I find Toronto is very exciting with lots of energy for the arts. I would have liked to spend more time getting to know you had we stayed in Atlanta but I guess that's life.

  11. Beautiful collage - I have used coffee and filters in the past and so - looking at yours, I'd probably try that again too - inspiring composition! The other thought was salt sprinkled on water color/Arches watercolor paper.
Thanks for joining my blog - I'll add a link to you on my page.
