Renewal 4"x5" ©Eva Macie
I had cataract surgery on my right eye Thursday and although it’s too soon to really judge, I’m not pleased with the results I have now. The doctor warned me that being an artist I may find the color change a bit unsettling at first. It seems as I aged the eye lens yellowed and became more opaque. When my old lens was replaced with a new clear lens, the cool brightness was unnerving! Not only that, for awhile everything was blurred! I was expecting fantastic vision as soon as the protective shield was removed. Needless to say I was shocked and upset when it wasn't. I’m feeling a little better about it today as the dilatation is returning to normal and my vision is improving. I’m praying that it will continue to improve. I created a digital image from my Citra-Solv papers, which probably was not the best choice, but I’m still hooked on the stuff. I wanted to show the difference in the temperature change in my eyes. The top is my interpretation of the right eye vision with the new clear lens and the bottom represents my left eye vision. Depending on the how much my vision continues to improve, I am scheduled to have the left eye done April 22. If it doesn’t, I may opt out for now.
Let me just say my mom had cataract surgery recently and she complained for weeks that her vision was messed up, her eye teared, and she couldn't read. I think she waited several months between doing each eye, and she is almost completely recovered now. Patience is a virtue.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin, thank you for letting me know I'm not alone thinking I made a mistake. Everyone I talked to said how great it was, but no one told me that it takes a while to see the results, not even the doctor. You truthful comment gives me hope.
ReplyDeleteEva, I was just talking to a woman this morning who had surgery and she mentioned that it took a while for things to settle down after her surgery.
ReplyDeleteWow, your Renewal is a very insightful (pardon the pun) piece!
Take care and remain hopeful.
The painting gives a lot of insight as to how there is a difference between the images perceived with the surgery and before it and it takes a few days usually to see more clearly, dont worry about it, it will be alright.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful piece!!! This year many in my family and a few friends have been going through this surgery and your digital collage gives an insight into their comments and complaints! - Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!!! . I have Uveitis and I may at some point have to have this sugery. (lets hope not) It is a something that I dare not think about when they tell me that I could loose my sight. As a visual artist that would be devastating. I feel for you and wish you all the best.
ReplyDelete>Padmaja, I appreciate your comments. Things are getting better everyday.Thank you.
ReplyDelete>Meera,Thanks for your kind words. As a visual person I always feel the need to illustrate what I'm saying.
>Melanie, I pray that you don't have to have surgery. Everyday new techniques improve the chances of good results. My vision is improving daily. Thanks for your comments!
Carole, thanks for your pun ;O) I am hopeful, as everyday things are improving.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I would have thought that the picture would be divided into left/right instead, but when I saw it and read cataract I got the message. The rainbow colours are very beautiful too. I hope that your vision becomes more crisp with each passing day.
ReplyDeleteI will have faith that eye will become better each passing day..I know as an artist it is hard to have patience..

This piece is beautiful and looks serene. I can't imagine an east adjustment but everyone seems to agree that time and patience will work in your favor. I'm holding healing thoughts!
ReplyDeleteHi Mark, at first I did divide it from left to right, but didn't like the composition. Also I wanted the metaphoric idea of rising from the dark to light. Thanks for you support!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katelen. Yes, patience is not my strong suit, but my eye is doing better.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you again Mary Ann. Thanks for your comments and supportive thoughts. My spirits are up and today I'm sure this will turn out great!
ReplyDeleteyes, wishing you healing vision! any surgery can't help but be something the body needs time to adjust and heal from. wishing you vivid colour.
ReplyDeletelove the digital piece, gives us an appreciation for your process.
Thank you for your healing wish and comment. Every day my vision seems to improve.
ReplyDeleteEva, I had a friend tell me she was reading on the way home from the surgery and I was expecting great results and when I didn't get it, I was in the Dr's office the next day for a follow up and crying. He said "Be patient. Your eye has been cut and it's swollen".He was right and I've had to use drops for a long time for burning but it's been about a year now and everything is great. I opted to continue to wear glasses.
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy. Thank you so much for your reassurance. Why do people make things sound better than they are? I got the same stories from a few others and it really shocked me when they weren't true. I'm having trouble with the dry eye also.It sounds like you picked the same option I did. I chose to be able to see the computer and my painting rather than distance, except I set the distance too close. Hope the Dr can adjust it with the left eye.Other than that things are improving:O)
ReplyDeleteEva - first, I sincerely hope that your eye is healing quickly. I'm blog-hopping from the Strathmore workshop links and I LOVE your work! I have citra-solve on my shopping list, hoping to be able to create some beautiful things like yours!
ReplyDeleteCindi
Great image...hope your eye is healing rapidly.
ReplyDeleteLove and light.
My father had similar problems when he first had his surgery. It took a while to heal but he's been fine ever since. I LOVE your work with the CitraSolv. (I'm hooked on it, too.) This is a beautiful piece.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam for your kind words and the info about the surgery. My eye is much, much better now, but I'm still undecided about doing the other one.
ReplyDeleteI hope your eye continues to improve. I was not 100% happy with my own cataract surgery, so I can relate. My first one came out better than the second. But - if you have a cataract in the second eye, you will more than likely not have a choice, as it will continue to deteriorate. Hope it all works out.
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle. Welcome to my blog. Finally someone will admit that cataract surgery is not always perfect. I felt like I was nuts complaining about mine. I plan to wait until I have no choice before I do the other one.
