Rent It

I recently bought the latest video by Ann Bagby and unfortunately it did not live up to her other videos. Although I was fascinated watching Ann draw the portrait and preparing surfaces in her altered book, she spent a lot of time showing how to mix and apply resin coating to the covers. Maybe it is because of where I am now in my life that I was a little disappointed. Being retired I live on a tight budget and I try to spend wisely on art supplies, etc. Resin coating is not on my top must have list. It is tricky to work with and messy. A Krylon triple coat gloss spray works great for me. I discovered after I bought the video, I could have rented it for a day at Artclick.tv for only $6.95, (which is all I would need). I guess another thing that hit a nerve was that she recommended using a Wall Street Journal newspaper for words and collage fonts. Hello? I have too many free papers thrown in my driveway and I do not subscribe to the Wall Street Journal. I know I am being overly sensitive, but even what appears to be a corporate male subject, represent all of the things that upset me now. I prefer her clowns and more ornate women. Just saying

  1. I have been wondering how you are doing, Eva, and have missed seeing blog posts from you more often. It sounds like you continue to keep busy and are still creating new work although it's always so frustrating when you spend money on new things for making art and they are not what you expected. Is the photo your work or a clip from the video? I am hoping you will be sharing a newly created altered book, inspired from the not so great video?!!

    1. Hi Robin, I haven't posted lately for several reasons.Since I've had some health issues, my energy has not been the best. Also I joined a little group of artists, who really are more into cute girlie kind of things. It's completely different than I'm use to, but everyone is so nice, almost like family, that I really enjoy the group....As for Ann's video, I was hoping it would get me back in the groove like her other videos did, but it hasn't work yet. I'm not sure if it's the video or where I am physically. The image is a captured clip from her video. I am working on a collage with some of my CitraSolv papers.

  2. Hello Eva! That's disappointing. I hope maybe when you've got more energy the video will be of more interest/help for you!
Take care and enjoy the last weeks of summer.

    1. Hi Carole. thanks for commenting. After reading my post today I could tell that my state of mind influenced a lot that I wrote. I really love most of Ann' work and videos. Hopefully when I watch it at another time I will be more inspired.

  3. It is such a bummer to spend that kind of money only to find out how "empty" of value the thing is! I find I have more fund wandering around YouTube -- and now, thanks to you, I have another outlet -- artclick.tv! Thank you, Eva!

  4. Hi Kelly. I feel like a jerk writing such a negative review about an artist's video. Anne Bagby is one of my favorite artists. Anyone who likes her work will enjoy seeing her struggle with her drawing and then stick with it to make it work. Being able to rent the video for a day to see if you want to buy it I think is the best way to go. Thanks for commenting.

  5. Eva, have ben wondering how you have been doing. I know inspite of your health issues, you always push yourself towards concrete creativity that always amazes me. Yes, renting is always a better option before buying especially when the budget is tight.. thanks for the link!

    1. Thank you Padmaja, for stopping by and commenting. I know not posting regularly is not good for my followers, but just like in life, there are a few like you, who continue to be here and I thank you. I am not as productive as I use to be. I have good days and not so good ones, but I'm still hanging on and plan to do so for as long as possible :O)
