Procrastinating Fun

With my taxes done, filed and accepted, I could not put off updating my web site. You want to bet? I am the world’s worse about quitting when I come to a troublesome problem that I do not want to deal with. There was a time when I enjoyed tackling things like creating my own web site, but in my old age, my patience has become extremely short. I guess time is so important to me now that I rather spend it doing things that intrigue me in the moment. For example, I went grocery shopping yesterday and ended up reading magazines at Barnes and Noble. I spent so much time there I forgot half the stuff I wanted to buy when I finally got to the store. But, oh how I enjoyed those two lost hours!

I read about an online collage site in one of the Digital Arts magazines at the bookstore. I doubt if anyone could use the collages they made as most of the elements you use are copyrighted. It is mainly a way to have fun, connect with other people and promote products. The collage I am showing is one I started creating online using only non-copyrighted textures, then I captured it and added some more elements of my own, including the crow, in Photoshop. The site is called Polyvore. I haven’t figure it all out yet, but like everything else I plunged right in and kept clicking on tabs hoping something would happen. It is the same way I learned the little I know about Photoshop. Check out the collections for some neat collages. Most of them are about fashion, which is the driving force behind this site, selling clothing and accessories. Enjoy!

  1. I've very good at procrastinating--always have been, so my taxes aren't done yet. I think all the papers are together in one desk drawer.

I'm good at clicking until something happens, too. Looks like something good happened with your collage.

  2. Hi Hallie, I think we are not alone with this annoying habit. As for taxes, my have become very simple since I retired so I can do them very quickly and easily with Turbo Tax. However, I still put it off.
Thanks for your kudos about the collage. It was fun to do.

  4. Your collage is beautiful, Eva... it's begging for encaustic medium! I thought if you use someone else's image and change it in any way (into a different art medium) then you are not legally copying someone else's work, because of the change. I have always been confused about copyright legalities which led me to only using my own photos when I am working with image transfer collages! Sadly, my taxes were easy to do, and I have had to re-assess if I want to continue filing as an art business in 2012 (my sales were way down in 2011 and the deductions don't outweigh the benefits of being a business).

    1. Robin I appreciate your kudos. I will just have to break down and try encaustic. I think the stories of the toxicity has held me back. Especially now that I have to be careful with what I use. I am not authority on copyright law, but after my run in with National Geographic, I try not to cross the line.... After years declaring my art as a business and the all the work it took to do the taxes, I understand what you are feeling.

  7. Welcome to the club Carole :O) I have a new post I need to write and I still haven't done it because I need to upload some images from my camcorder. Much easier to do it from my camera! Good luck with Polyvore. I think I'm over it for now.
